Blogtoberfest: Day 2

A big part of our family's life has, for a number of years, been our children's involvement in the Cathedral Choirs. Our daughter was in the Girl's Choir for over six years and is now singing in a professional choir in our city. This past summer, the Choir of Men and Boys toured France and England. This is the second overseas tour for the boys and me. This photo was taken on our first day in Monet's Garden in Giverney, France after an overnight flight from Ottawa.

Today was the first service of the new choir year with the commissioning of new choristers to positions of leadership. My older boy is now the oldest boy in the choir and today was made a Prefect. Leadership, both musical and social, is taken very seriously by the Choir and gives boys the opportunity grow in ways not easily found in today's world.

Today was a two service day with a pot-luck lunch between services. There were many tasty offerings available for the choristers and their families. By popular request, I made Quick Chicken Korma from one of my favourite Madhur Jaffrey cookbooks: Quick and Easy Indian Cooking.

With it being the Eve of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the second service was a blessing for the animals. Dogs, cats, a rabbit, a chinchilla, two guinea pigs, a budgie and even a turtle were blessed by the priests and serenaded by music. We brought our two cats last year but decided against it this year. Even though I had my camera with me, with all the excitement, I forgot to get a photo of the vintage hat I wore with my vintage inspired outfit.
